GE approached us looking for help with the launch of its new DeepWater Vertical Xmas Tree (DVXT). The planned launch was to be held at the Offshore Northern Seas Conference 2014 (ONS) in Stavanger, Norway. GE wished to stand out at the industry event and asked us to present the product in an innovative, informative and memorable way.
As the design for GE’s stand and all associated print work was signed off and in production, this added limitations to what we could do in regards to the overall look of the stand. Our creative team looked to the digital world for inspiration and was impressed with the 3D modelling the client produced for the DVXT. Our designers decided to bring this to life through the medium of Augmented Reality.
Using our ClevAR Augmented Reality app, available on the Apple App Store, we created triggers which would activate when a smartphone or tablet camera was pointed at them. These triggers were made out of the front cover of GE’s exhibition brochure, as well as on promotional LEGO® models.
When the trigger activated it would show a virtual 3D Model of the DVXT, which would jump out the page on the users device. The user could then navigate around the model by moving their device, allowing them to zoom in and out and navigate a full 360° around the model.
The addition of Augmented Reality added an important element to the stand and really helped to create a buzz around the DVXT.
