Edinburgh First Stop for AVC’s Expanding Advertising Arm

Thursday, June 14th, 2007

Aberdeen-based AVC Media Enterprises has strengthened its advertising arm, AVC Brand Advertising, opening a new facility in Edinburgh to service its growing number of clients in Lothian and the Central Belt.

AVC Advertising was formed one year ago and has already brought in more than £500,000 from a standing start. Having merged with Dundee based Precision Media six months ago the company most recently purchased Brand Advertising to form the wholly owned subsidiary of AVC Media Enterprises, AVC Brand Advertising, which is on course to turnover £3million in its first year.

With a growing client base in Edinburgh and Lothian, AVC has opened its new facility in Leith to offer a face to face service for media planning and buying as well as the associated creative requirements offered from a full service agency.

With AVC’s headquarters remaining in Aberdeen, Philippa Quinn has joined the company to develop business out with the North East and manage the company’s growing number of clients.

Philippa joins AVC from Edinburgh-based Emap, where she managed the media planning for a number of blue chip accounts including Chatham Honda/Skoda, Edinburgh Woollen Mills and Stewart Milne. Before this she spent time with Radio Forth and Scottish Radio Holdings.

Philippa comments: “I’m really looking forward to working with the team at AVC. It’s great to be involved in something completely new. AVC has so much to offer clients that I’m sure we will quickly add to the existing client base in Edinburgh and Lothian.”

Spencer Buchan, Director of AVC and AVC Brand Advertising comments: “We already have 18 clients in Edinburgh and Lothian. The natural step was to service those clients from a central location, offering client contact only a stone’s throw from their business. We’ve done a great job from our Aberdeen HQ but now we’ll be on hand permanently to offer a face to face service for our clients.”

While media planning and buying will be the lead service offered from the Edinburgh office, clients will have ready access to the wide range of corporate communication services provided by AVC.

Enterprising Youngsters get Star Treatment at Pirates Premiere

Monday, May 28th, 2007

A group of students from Aberdeen’s Hazlehead Academy were given star treatment at an exclusive premiere of Pirates of the Caribbean 3: At Worlds End, after proving their business savvy in a competition organised by Careers Scotland.

More than 80 students from eight schools across Aberdeen City and Shire were involved in the competition that formed part of Student Business Week, an initiative set up and run by Careers Scotland.

Throughout the week, the students proved that they had enough business sense to run and make a success of their own hotel in a simulated term of two years. The project, which was supported by the Robert Gordon University also asked the students to film and produce their own television advert.

Aberdeen-based AVC Media Enterprises supported the project by offering help, advice and support on making a television commercial and selected Hazlehead Academy’s entry for the fictional ‘Golden Eagles Hotel’ as the winner.

The group of eight S4-S6 pupils from the school and their teacher, who acted as a mentor throughout the project, attended the exclusive film premiere organised by AVC Media Enterprises. The Hollywood style event included a themed buffet at Fandango’s Bar and Grill where a group of pirates entertained the guests, before the private showing of the film at Cineworld, Aberdeen.

Spencer Buchan, Director of AVC Media Enterprises comments: “It’s been great for us to support the schools involved in Student Business Week and the standard of work and demonstration of outstanding business sense has been second to none.

“At AVC we realise the importance of nurturing the skills and talents of our young people and offering them a taste of the real world – which they handled like true professionals!”

With the event marking the end of Student Business Week 2006, preparations are already underway for Student Business Week 2007. For more details contact Lynn Third at Careers Scotland on 01224 285200.

AVC Goes Green with Community Council to Create Calder Park Woodland

Saturday, March 31st, 2007

Aberdeen-based AVC Media Enterprises went green this weekend, as over 40 members of staff joined with the local Community Council to create a new recreational park.

The new park situated on Redmoss Road, known as Calder Park, will turn a redundant area of greenbelt into a useable recreational area.

Lead by AVC Chairman Keith Main, employees, friends and families joined the project and took to the hills of the Redmoss aerial site on Saturday 31st March to plant more than 2000 trees and shrubs.

Aberdeen City Council provided the trees, shrubs and equipment for the project, which will make the redundant area of ground just off Wellington Circle more attractive and encourage the area to be used and enjoyed by local residents and employees, while maintaining its Green Belt identity.

Employees from FMC and pupils from Kincorth Academy also joined the team from AVC. Altogether it took the 80-strong team 5 hours to plant all the new trees and shrubs. As a gesture of thanks to all those taking part in the project, AVC opened up its Conference and Management Centre and with the help of Makro, provided break out facilities and refreshments throughout the day.

Chairman of AVC, Keith Main comments: “This is a great project, which underpins our commitment to improving the environment. Already this has enhanced the surroundings, making a more pleasant environment for the people who work here and the local residents.

“Our own offices at AVC have been designed to maximise natural light. It will make such a difference to look out onto woodland rather than waste ground. I’m delighted that so many residents and employees, including our own staff, were willing to give up their free time and get their hands dirty.”

Calder Park is now open for public use. Access can be gained from either Redmoss Road or Wellington Circle.
