Aberdeen-based AVC Media Enterprises went green this weekend, as over 40 members of staff joined with the local Community Council to create a new recreational park.
The new park situated on Redmoss Road, known as Calder Park, will turn a redundant area of greenbelt into a useable recreational area.
Lead by AVC Chairman Keith Main, employees, friends and families joined the project and took to the hills of the Redmoss aerial site on Saturday 31st March to plant more than 2000 trees and shrubs.
Aberdeen City Council provided the trees, shrubs and equipment for the project, which will make the redundant area of ground just off Wellington Circle more attractive and encourage the area to be used and enjoyed by local residents and employees, while maintaining its Green Belt identity.
Employees from FMC and pupils from Kincorth Academy also joined the team from AVC. Altogether it took the 80-strong team 5 hours to plant all the new trees and shrubs. As a gesture of thanks to all those taking part in the project, AVC opened up its Conference and Management Centre and with the help of Makro, provided break out facilities and refreshments throughout the day.
Chairman of AVC, Keith Main comments: “This is a great project, which underpins our commitment to improving the environment. Already this has enhanced the surroundings, making a more pleasant environment for the people who work here and the local residents.
“Our own offices at AVC have been designed to maximise natural light. It will make such a difference to look out onto woodland rather than waste ground. I’m delighted that so many residents and employees, including our own staff, were willing to give up their free time and get their hands dirty.”
Calder Park is now open for public use. Access can be gained from either Redmoss Road or Wellington Circle.
