AVC Design New Signage to Enhance Glenfiddich Distillery Experience

AVC Design New Signage to Enhance Glenfiddich Distillery Experience.

Glenfiddich, the Dufftown based whisky distillery, recently commissioned AVC to design and develop a new suite of signage for their Visitor Centre.

The popular tourist attraction forms part of the Malt Whisky Trail in Speyside and is visited by thousands of whisky enthusiasts a year. The existing signage was out of date and not in-keeping with the new brand image the company wanted to portray.

AVC’s challenge was to design a range of signage options for the distillery, taking into account the natural surroundings, quality, longevity and environmental impact of the materials chosen. It was also vital that the materials and design chosen were true to the Glenfiddich brand guidelines, incorporating key elements of their brand identity and heritage.

After a comprehensive investigation of suitable materials and their associated attributes, AVC developed a signage solution that met the specification laid out by Glenfiddich.  A black background, along with the Glenfiddich crest, was printed using a colourfast and lightfast digital printing process that extends the signage lifespan up to 8-10 years. This was then wrapped round handcrafted metal trays, which were then finished with laser cut 3D lettering.

The signage was then located around the distillery. By utilising a variety of wall and free-standing mounts the team could ensure that signage was placed safely in the most appropriate locations.

Stewart Buchanan, Creative Director at AVC, “There were various important elements to consider when we began this project, each offering their own challenges. The heritage of the site was particularly important as any potential solution had to be loyal to the natural environment and create a particular impression. Our experience of working alongside Glenfiddich on a host of design projects ensured that we tailored a solution to their preferences, helping improve the overall visitor experience.”

The project was completed in January 2010 and amounted to a six figure contract for AVC’s creative team.
