Project: Provision of Remote Broadband Services on Osea Island

Background

The Causeway Retreat is an exclusive private island retreat set in the most idyllic surroundings of Osea Island, situated on the Blackwater at the base of the Thames Estuary. Enclosed by four miles of beaches and coastline, this beautiful island provides an inspirational setting as a marine sanctuary for an abundant variety of wildlife and rare birds.

The island complex consists of three main areas; the office, Manor House and the village, each of which posed their own individual challenges. Access is limited to the island for four hours the day due to tidal flow, which makes installation and support services a challenge in itself.

The office complex required an internet broadband system to provide a reliable internet service for the office staff to provide normal day to day business operations.

The manor house, with its 12 guest rooms and suites, was built around 1900. Installation of a communications system had to be discreet and able to support Internet data requirements for all of the rooms and suites.

The village has evolved around the old 16th Century Farm buildings which are clustered together at the centre of the Island set at about 30ft above sea level, comprising of a small hamlet of 15 houses and cottages with a further 7 apartments including the old Chapel. The village needed to be served with a system that was not only comprehensive for the number of locations needing connectivity to the internet but also so as not to spoil the idyllic location, views and tranquility of the area.

Summary

The Management Company, Matrix Studio’s, contracted Remote Technical Services to provide a solution to this challenge in the three separate areas of the island retreat. Remote Technical Services rose to that challenge ensuring the first system for the main offices was supplied, installed and operational within 10 days of the initial enquiry. This was a satellite based service providing 3 Mbit/s broadband connectivity, allowing staff to continue their business operations with minimal disruption during the change over and installation process.
