Refurbishment at Glen Esk

Project: Refurbishment at Glen Esk
Summary: Based on the Remote Technical Services Community Wireless range of products and services, Remote Technical Services deployed a Satellite terminal.

Background

The Auchmull Project - an imaginative refurbishment of an old sporting lodge and its outbuildings in Glen Esk - was judged overall winner of the Angus Design Awards 2008.

Auchmull lies at the heart of the Gannochy Estate in Glen Esk, which extends to 17,000 acres and was once considered to be one of Scotland's premier sporting estates. The estate was acquired by Allan Hemmings in 2004, whose refurbishment of Auchmull is part of ongoing work to bring the Gannochy Estate back to its former glory. The key parts of the refurbishment were the extension to the lodge house to create an extensive library and the conversion of the steading to provide self catering accommodation and self-contained accommodation for trainee gamekeepers.

The office complex required a broadband system that provided a reliable internet service for the office staff to provide normal day to day business operations and the Award winning Auchmull lodge. The Lodge, with its newly refurbished guest rooms and suites, required a solution that didn’t detract from the tastefully modern, yet maintaining the country estate feel, decoration and layout. Installation of a system had to be discreet and able to support Internet data requirements for visiting guests within the general areas as well as the guest rooms and suites.

The whole estate complex, its picturesque grounds, the main house and the gate houses needed to be served with a system that was not only comprehensive for the number of locations needing connectivity to the internet but also so as not to spoil the idyllic location, views and tranquility of them.

Summary

The Estate Management Team contracted Remote Technical Services to provide a solution to this challenge. Remote Technical Services rose to that challenge having the system supplied, installed and operational with 14 days of the enquiry for service.

Based on the Remote Technical Services Community Wireless range of products and services, Remote Technical Services moved forward with the deployment of a Satellite terminal. A 2.4Ghz wireless network that was integrated into the Satellite broadband solution provided a secure wireless LAN for the offices and main shooting lodge. Additional access points were then deployed to the main house and provision was made for linking in the gate house to complete the network. Careful planning and a pre-cabling approach to the project allowed them to continue their business operations with minimal disruption during the change over and installation process.

Completed on time and in budget the award winning estate is one of Scotland's premier locations for hunting and fishing within the idyllic surroundings of Glen Esk. Remote Technical Services continue to monitor and service the broadband system on the estate as part of our Site Assist warranty and advance replacement programme.
