RGU - ePortfolio

Project: RGU - ePortfolio
Summary: Three faculties within Robert Gordon University commissioned AVC to produce a web application that would provide an e-Portfolio for students and replace the manual, paper-based processes that students had to undertake to maintain their individual portfolios and keep records of their studies.

Background

The Robert Gordon University is known as the Best Modern University in the UK (The Times Good University Guide 2009). The University’s investment in technology has helped them achieve this position in the UK.

Three faculties within Robert Gordon University commissioned AVC to produce a web application that would provide an e-Portfolio for students and replace the manual, paper-based processes that students had to undertake to maintain their individual portfolios and keep records of their studies.

Summary

Discussions between the AVC digital team and each Faculty identified a need for three key sections namely the system administration area, the student’s area and the tutor’s area. AVC designed a solution to address this and incorporated the following activities:

  • Bespoke E-Learning system
  • Software development
  • Database Development
  • Web Application Development
  • Systems Analysis
  • Content Management

The resultant e-Portfolio provided a more efficient and effective way of accessing information and communicating between students, tutors and the Faculty. Key benefits include easier management of course information and the electronic capture, access and archiving of student learning records. Overall, it allows students to easily track their personal and professional development.
