Digital Switchover

Digital Switchover for the STV North region began on 5th May 2010 with completion scheduled for 6th October 2010.  The UK will be fully ‘Digital’ in 2012, whereby all analogue transmissions will be switched off.

As the switchover progresses, only digital tuners will be manufactured and distribution components supporting analogue will be phased out.

Although you will not see an instant change when the analogue transmissions are switched off, analogue products including televisions and components are being dis-continued. This will mean that replacements will no longer be available to support many current offshore TV/distribution systems.

As many systems have existing SMATV racks, distributing signals using analogue technology, spare parts may become increasingly difficult to source, as will televisions with analogue tuners to receive the distributed analogue signals.

The time is to act now in preparation for these changes. In order to prevent your system from being outdated and inoperative in the future, AVC are on hand to provide expertise and advice on any issues surrounding the digital switchover offshore.

If you have any concerns about your present system, require further information on this or an engineer’s site visit, please do not hesitate to contact us to discuss the implications to the offshore industry.
