Stena Drilling - DVD Induction programme

Project: Stena Drilling - DVD Induction programme
Summary: AVC’s skills in filming, 3D animation and production were used to create an engaging DVD that combined animated sequences and footage filmed on board the vessel in Korea and Brazil.

Background

Stena Drilling is one of the world's foremost independent drilling contractors. The company is a global business and has operated in the North Sea, US Gulf of Mexico, South East Asia, Mediterranean, Caribbean, South America, Australia, North Africa and West Africa.

Stena Drilling commissioned AVC to create a DVD based induction programme for their new 6th generation DrillMax Drillships.

Summary

As new additions to the Stena fleet, the DrillMax Drillships presented a new and extensive environment for crewmembers.  The induction programme needed to provide a comprehensive insight into the vessel, engage the audience and feel fresh and innovative.

The final induction programme was to be viewed by all personnel visiting any of the three DrillMax Drillships and delivered as a linear programme that is not modular or interactive, but in real time.

AVC’s skills in filming, 3D animation and production were used to create an engaging DVD that combined animated sequences and footage filmed on board the vessel in Korea and Brazil.  The use of animation allowed parts of the vessel to be shown that would not have been possible with conventional filming.

To help engage the audience, sound bites from various members of the crew were used to give the production a more personal feel and create an informative and reassuring welcome.

The Client was delighted with the end result and the DVD was subsequently translated into Brazilian Portuguese by AVC.  AVC was subsequently commissioned to update the DVD specifically for the Stena Carron, the next ship in the DrillMax ships series.
